Education

MECC is a “value-added” proposition for education that will lead to a sustainable and integrative academic program at UH that brings together students from all disciplines on campus as well as others outside the UH community. As students strive to prepare for future careers in the marine energy sector and the blue economy, they will gain project-based learning experiences and training in marine science, engineering, environment, climate, and technology.

The MECC team will leverage industrial expertise in marine systems and power electronics associated with energy storage and microgrids, and will gain knowledge in desalination and electro-chemical marine-based technologies via coursework and experiential engagement with expert faculty. The team will engage with the UH C. T. Bauer College of Business nationally ranked Entrepreneurship Program and earn Technology Entrepreneurship Certificates (TEC). The MECC team can also integrate their capstone project requirements within the Honors College Senior Honors Thesis and leverage their engagement in MECC towards their Energy and Sustainability minor course requirements. All will have unprecedented opportunities to be mentored by an exceptional faculty and participate in project-based learning in the faculty laboratories.
